Hell week. Very little sleep, no rest.
It is the day I graduate from college and I am running on about 30 minutes of sleep. I was up until 5:45am putting together my take-aways for the portfolio show. Cutting, folding, assembling. Very tedious, very time consuming. This was partly because it was an elaborate package, and also because the people at Sir Speedy fucked them up. So the cutting of my packages had to be done in a couple different steps, one of which included holding another copy over top of the one I was working on so I would know where to cut the slits for my business card and the tabs on the package.
Goddamnit.
Was up at 6:15am to gather my stuff together, iron my clothes, shower, and all that. I still ended up getting to the church for set up late, but I was the second one there out of the four of us. :)
The portfolio show was not nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be. It went by pretty quickly, plus my brain was numbed from the lack of sleep, and there was just a lot of positive energy in the air. It was a good group of grads this quarter. Joe (who won best of show for our program), Alison, Jerry, and Me representing IMD. Ivy, Alicia, Misty for VFX. A group of people who's absence will be felt to be sure.
I met some industry folks at the show, some of them seemed cool, some seemed like douchebags. Overall it was good though, I got at least one interview out of the deal anyway, an interview at a place that was alright.
My main concern for the day was whether I would be able to hang out with my friends afterward and do a little celebrating. My brother's wedding was scheduled for the 16th, the next day, so I had to get back to Wisconsin. Luckily Ryan brought a vehicle so I was able to hang out and hitch a ride with him and Nathan.
So the ceremony went off without a hitch. Mike Heagle was the MC again and did his usual smashing job. When Joe Song and I went up to walk (the two IMD Bachelor's grads), he made a point of mentioning how we were two of his favorites and that he was going to be sad to see us go. That made me feel pretty good, and I got a pretty nice cheer from the crowd.
So now it's done. I have my degree. All it took was three years and countless hours in the computer labs. I have made an effort to change myself for the better, I hope I have been able to help others do the same for themselves.
