No End in Sight

You must go see this movie. Whether that be on the big screen at your local independant theater (you will not find it in the big chains or "mainstream" theaters) or on DVD in your living room, you owe it to yourself to give it a watch if you are at all concerned with the war in Iraq and the Bush administration's handling of it. Do not pirate it. Pay for it. Support the fucking thing. That is how these things are able to be done.

I went to see it at the Uptown Theater and despite the weird smell of the place (it always smells weird) and the fact that I was holding a piss for more than 90 minutes, I was staggard by what I saw and what I heard.

There were moments that brought a tear to my eye. Such as when the Iraqi ministers of education were pleading for protection from looters. Asking that people come and help protect the Iraqi National Historical Museum. This museum was home to some of the world's oldest artifacts of civilization. Ancient manuscripts and scrolls, statues, religious artifacts, and more were all housed here. But it was left wide open to attack. It was pilliaged and burned. Now it is but an empty husk.

Such was the same fate for a number of similar sites. The ministry of education, leading scientific institutions, et al were left unprotected despite being on a list of 20 sites that were considered to be of great importance submitted by ORHA (the organization given the task of trying to come up with a plan for the country). They are all now in ruins.

So where were all the US troops? What significant location were they protecting from riots and looters? Why the ministry of oil of course. Is it any surprise?

There is no point in my trying to recap everything because there is a TON of information provided over the course of the film. This stuff comes from the horse's mouth too. The people being interviewed were major players in the initial proceedings or aides to the top dogs.

It is a scathing commentary on the mismanagement, corruption, and incompetence surrounding the whole affair that is the current war in Iraq. Do yourself a favor and check it out. I would love to talk about it with you after you do.

I am a designer and web developer, a student of many things. Music, art, writing, you name it I will probably try it and probably do it pretty well. I graduated, with honors, in June 2007 from the Art Institutes International Minnesota with my Bachelor's degree in Interactive Media Design. I am now just going to move on into my career and continue to learn new things and hopefully pass what I have learned on to others.
